Sympathy: The community was plunged into mourning over the holiday period with a number of familiessuffering bereavements. Betty McManus, mother of Club Chairman, Patrick, died in a tragic accident on the Thursday before Christmas. Sincere sympathy is also extended to the McGourty Family, Dristernan, on the sad passing of Maureen’s mother, Delia Flanagan, and to the Conlan Family, Hilly Road, on the death of Olive Conlan, both of whom were laid to rest last Wednesday. 1991 Senior Championship Team Reunion: The Reunion of the 1991 Senior Championship Winning Team took place in the Lough Allen Hotel on Saturday night and proved to be a memorable occasion. It’s hard to believe that it’s 25 years since that group won the Club’s first senior championship title and it was wonderful to meet up with so many old friends and share great memories. Most of the side are locally based but a number of the team travelled from various parts of the country to be present on the night notably John Owens, Pat McGovern, Barry McGuire, Sean Flood, Brian McManus and Gareth McWeeney. Of course it was also poignant as we remembered the late Gerry Keane who was such a key member of that team and is still greatly missed. Brendan Canning provided a highly entertaining commentary of the squad in verse which went down a storm. Club chairman, Patrick McManus, spoke of what that victory meant to the Club and how it lay the foundations for future success. Captain of that team & now club secretary, Padraig Kenny paid special tribute to manager Frank McKeon who joined in the celebrations and to trainer Eamonn McGowan & selector Seamus Heron for their contributions to the Club over many years. He went on to provide an eloquent account of that time that was both comic & moving. He especially remembered those no longer with us who were featured in a special DVD that provided interviews with many local people in the build up to the county final and the celebrations in town afterwards which were conducted by Noel McPartland & Enda McGloin. That commemorative DVD with those features and the match itself was presented to each member of the panel and is available from club officers for €10 and really brings back vivid memories of that time. We would like to thank all the team & management for making the effort to attend and for making it such a great occasion. Many thanks also to Enda McGloin for acting as MC; to Gareth Smith for taking the photos; to Brendan Canning and DJ DL for providing the entertainment.

Senior Championship: We lost to Gortletteragh in the senior quarter final in Ballinamore on Sunday evening on a scoreline of 0-12 to 2-04. It was a very disappointing exit to the championship after we failed to build on a good opening with 2 goals from Thomas Mulvey & Dylan McGowan in the opening half. However we never added to our tally after the break and that’s just not good enough to progress at this stage. Well done to the lads & management for their efforts all year.
Ladies Senior Championship: St. Francis ladies lost the relegation final against Glencar Manorhamilton on Saturday evening in Drumkeerin. Things didn’t run for us and two near misses in the first half – Michelle Monaghan’s penalty crashed against the crossbar and shortly afterwards a screamer from Eilish Cornyn did the same meant it wasn’t our night. Manorhamilton found the scores easier to come by and were deserving winners. Well done to the team on their efforts all year. We have some important league games remaining so good luck to the girls in those matches.

We play Carrigallen in the final group game next weekend.

Senior Championship: We drew with Aughawillan under lights in Cloone in the opening match of the championship on Friday night on a scoreline of 2-06 to 0-12. We had two first half goals through Nicholas Moore from the penalty spot and Gareth Higgins making his championship debut which gave us a cushion at the break but we had to survive constant pressure in the second period to hold on for a point. Both teams will probably feel they could have won the game with Aughawillan completely dominating possession in the second half & we only managed one score in that period so can’t complain with the draw. Indeed only for a tremendous block by Alan Wynne late on the result could have been very different. Well done to Kevin Nolan & Oisin Dolan who stepped into the breach to provide cover with both goalkeepers unavailable at the weekend. We play Drumreilly in the next round in 10 days time.

Division 1: The lads put in an excellent performance on Saturday evening at home to St. Mary’s with a comprehensive 6-14 to 1-09 victory. After a couple of indifferent displays recently this was a much improved performance full of energy and drive and is a confidence boost for the lads with championship this weekend. Nicholas Moore and Shane Walsh had 2 points on the board in the opening few minutes & a well taken Thomas Mulvey goal in the 7th minute saw us lead 1-02 to 0-02. We were well on top and further points from Sean Mulvey (2), Shane Walsh (2), Martin Raftery (2) and Nicholas Moore (2) saw us lead 1-10 to 0-07 at the break. The lads pushed on after the interval and James Flynn goaled in the first minute of the second half & Nicholas added 2 more points. Thomas Mulvey scored his second goal in the 36th minute to extend the lead. St. Mary’s goaled in the 42nd minute but Thomas replied immediately with another point. Nicholas and Ciaran Walsh both found the net in quick succession in the 45th & 46th minutes. Thomas Mulvey completed a hatrick of goals 5 minutes later and Nicholas Moore had our last score with a point in the 55th minute. St. Marys added 2 late points to complete the scoring.

U-14 Girls: The girls lost the county final on Saturday against a powerful Glencar Manorhamilton side. It was a brave performance from the girls who never gave in despite being under pressure for most of the match with the opposition having won a national title at Feile last month. The panel was Niamh McDonagh, Kaitlyn Dolan, Niamh Morahan, Niamh Nolan, Amy Moran, Lauryn McKeon, Zakalina Ozdobinska, Megan Moran, Caoimhe McGarry, Laoise Fee, Olwyn Moore, Edel O’Donnell, Sarah McLoughlin, Grace McKeon, Maria McGrenaghan, Rachel McGarry, Rosylyn Kane, Chloe Cull, Molly Atherton, Chloe Gilmartin, Etain O’Connell, Eibhlin O’Connell, Amber McCarthy, Aideen McDonagh, Abby Collins. We would like to thank the coaches who looked after the kids so well all week namely Shannon O’Rourke, Clare Beirne, Eilish O’Dowd, Caoimhe Canning, Claire Rowley, Caillian Canning, Dean McGovern, Luke Murphy, Ryan O’Rourke, Conor Cullen, Conor Gaffney, Peter Reynolds. A special thank you to Shane O’Rourke and in particular to camp co-ordinator, Enda Lyons.
U-6’s, 8’s & 10’s: Coaching takes a break for the next couple of Saturdays with holiday season in full swing.
Division 1: We were comprehensively beaten by Ballinamore Sean O’Heslins on Saturday evening in Ballinamore on a scoreline of 2-18 to 1-07. It was an evening when nothing went right and we had 3 serious injuries to contend with as well. Ballinamore were fast out of the blocks & we never got to grips with them at all. We trailed 2-10 to 0-04 at the break and were second best all over the pitch. Having said that we had 2 clear goal chances in the first half Nicholas Moore hit the upright and Shane Walsh’s effort was saved. Ballinamore’s first goal was fortuitous when a high ball eluded everyone but some of their point taking was first class. James Flynn (2), Nicholas Moore & Martin Raftery accounted for our opening half scores. After the break we had points from James, Nicholas (2) and a Shane Beirne goal but a flurry of late points from the hosts finished the scoring. We wish Kevin Moran a speedy recovery after he was hospitalised on Saturday night. We play St. Marys at home this Saturday evening at 7pm. Best of luck to the team & management.
St. Francis Ladies: The ladies made their senior championship debut against Aughawillan on Sunday in Ballinamore. U-12 Longford Leitrim League: Pride of place this week goes to the U-12’s who won the Division 2 Final of the League against Carrick Sarsfields in Pearse Park in Longford on Saturday last. The players turned around a heavy defeat to the same opposition a number of weeks ago with a tremendous team display that saw us home by 2-09 to 0-05. Everyone played their part in a super game and there were great celebrations afterwards both in Pearse Park and back in the clubhouse. Well done to Farrell, Angus & all the players on a great achievement. Indeed it was encouraging to see all the Leitrim teams do well in the finals so congratulations to all the clubs who were successful at the weekend.

The game was level 2-06 to 1-09 at the end of normal time and we outscored Ballinamore by 0-04 to 0-02 in extra time to win on a scoreline of 2-10 to 1-11. Well done to Ciara, Stephanie and all the players who put in such a great effort. The final is this Saturday at 5pm in Leitrim Village against Glencar Manorhamilton.
Kellogg’s GAA Cul Camp: The Cul Camp began in Drumshanbo on Monday and as usual we had a huge turnout. This year is the largest camp ever with 220 boys & girls taking part. We wish Enda Lyons and his team of coaches all the best and hope that the weather improves as the week goes on.
Division 1: We overcame Leitrim Gaels at home on Saturday evening on a scoreline of 2-10 to 1-05. The game was played in difficult conditions with a swirling wind but after a very poor first half performance we improved after the break to secure two points. We led 0-04 to 0-02 at half time after playing with the wind with James Flynn hitting 3 frees and Thomas Mulvey a point from play. Two points in the opening 10 minutes of the second half from Thomas & Martin Beirne were followed by a fine goal from Gareth Higgins to give us a nice cushion. Former player, Brian Treacy, netted for the visitors but points from James Flynn, Shane Walsh & Nicholas Moore put us in control and a James Flynn goal in the 54th minute sealed the win. Nicholas Moore completed our scoring late on for a deserved victory. We play Ballinamore Sean O’Heslins away this Saturday evening at 7pm. Best of luck to the team & management.

Division 1: We came out on top against Aughnasheelin on Saturday evening in a very keenly contested match on a scoreline of 2-09 to 0-09. The game was played at a good pace and both sides will have learned from the exchanges. Aughnasheelin opened brightly and led by 0-02 to no score after 10 minutes before James Flynn opened our account with a free on 12 minutes. We quickly followed this with a clinical finish to the net from Nicholas Moore after he drifted in behind the visitor’s defence. James added a free in the 18th minute & Nicholas had a fine point from play a minute later to extend the lead. In the 20th minute Shane Walsh found the net after a super run and finish at the near post. Aughnasheelin then enjoyed a good spell and had 3 points on the trot but Danny Egan had the last point of the half on the stroke of the break to leave it 2-04 to 0-05. Sean Mulvey struck a fine point from play in the first minute of the half. The visitors added a point from play & one from a placed ball but James Flynn from a free maintained our advantage. Two further frees from James in the 47th & 49th minutes left the score 2-08 to 0-07 with 10 minutes remaining. Aughnasheelin struck 2 more frees and James Flynn completed our tally to leave the final scoreline 2-09 to 0-09. There is a short break in the senior league in advance of Leitrim’s outing in the qualifiers on June 18th.
Division 3: We played Aughavas away on Sunday and lost on a scoreline of 2-13 to 3-03. After a very sluggish first half where we trailed 1-08 to no score at the break we woke up and goals from Conor Tiernan, Danny Egan & Gareth Higgins cut the gap to 3 points with time running out but a late Aughavas goal sealed victory.
Leo Kenny Cup: We play Elphin away this week in the opening round of the Leo Kenny Cup so best of luck to the team.
National Schools’ Finals: Congratulations to the girls’ school team who retained the Cumann na mBunscoil Division 1 Title with victory over Ballinamore in Pairc Sean MacDiarmada on Thursday last. Well done to the whole panel of players and to their mentors especially Aisling Brennan who has put in a lot of work with the group and to Ann Flood for all her assistance. Unfortunately the boys were just pipped by Ballinamore by a point in their Shield Final so hard luck to the lads. Many thanks to all the parents who helped out in the clubhouse after the games & to Gibbon’s Centra for refreshments.

The first game throws in at 12noon and we look forward to a great afternoon’s entertainment. Anyone available to help out with the running of the event would be most welcome on the day.
Division 1: We secured 2 valuable league points in Annaduff on Saturday evening in a very keenly contested match on a scoreline of 2-11 to 1-13. It was a see saw game and could have gone either way but the lads finished strongly to show real battling qualities when it mattered most. Annaduff opened the scoring but Shane Walsh found the net early to settle us down. Nicholas Moore & Martin Beirne pointed from play but 3 points from the home side kept them in touch. James Flynn added a brace of frees but Annaduff responded with a good spell that yielded 1-02. Nicholas Moore, Danny Egan & the last score of the half from Shane Walsh saw us go in a the break leading 1-07 to 1-06. Annaduff struck the first 2 points after the interval to lead by the minimum but a brilliant James Flynn point from the wing tied it again 1-08 apiece. The home side were really on top at this stage and scored 4 unanswered points 2 frees & 2 from play to lead by 4 with under 10 minutes on the clock. The lads dug in and a great run from Gareth Higgins resulted in a penalty which was despatched by James Flynn and substitute Ciaran Walsh levelled with a lovely point from play to leave it 2-09 to 1-12 with 5 minutes remaining. We edged in front with a free from James but Annaduff levelled with time almost up. It was left to Ciaran Walsh to have the final say with a great winner in injury time. Well done to the lads and we play Aughnasheelin on Saturday evening in the park at 7pm.

St. Francis Ladies: The ladies lost out to Oughteragh Gaels in the park on Sunday morning on a scoreline of 2-10 to 2-08. It was a very competitive encounter and despite goals from Aine Flood & Katie Foley the visitors hung on for a slender victory. Hard luck to Dermot, Ann, Sean & the girls.

Division 1: We secured our first points of the league on Saturday evening with a 1-15 to 1-05 victory over Dromahair. The visitors opened the scoring in the first minute with a point from play but once James Flynn opened our account on four minutes, we never looked back. Brian Mulvey clipped over 2 frees, Martin Raftery & a brace from Ciaran Mattynnsenns all from play saw us lead 0-06 to 0-01 at the end of the first quarter. Brian added a free & Sean Mulvey scored from play to stretch the lead and just before the interval, Gareth Higgins, a first half substitute making his competitive debut for the seniors struck for a goal, with a lovely composed finish. The half time score was 1-08 to 0-01 and despite a more competitive second half we added points from James Flynn (0-03), Alan Wynne, Danny Egan, Gareth Higgins & Shane Walsh a point apiece, with the visitors goal coming in the 56th minute to leave the final score 1-15 to 1-05.
