County News

U-20’s: Hard luck to the Leitrim U-20 team in their Connacht Championship game v Roscommon in Ballinamore last week. Two quick goals just before half-time gave the Rossies a healthy half-time lead from which they never looked back. They now face Mayo in Mohill on Saturday, April 27th at 4.00 pm. We send them our good wishes especially Arek & Jake.

Minors: There was heartbreak for the Leitrim minors in their Connacht Championship clash with Sligo last Friday evening, when Sligo converted an injury-time free to take the honours. They entertain Roscommon in Ballinamore next Friday at 6.45. Best of luck to the team & management and to the Allen Gaels trio of Oran, Daire & Senan.

Leitrim Ladies: Best of luck to the Leitrim Ladies and to our Allen Gaels representatives Michelle Monaghan & Lauryn McKeon in their encounter v Sligo in Shane McGettigan Park next Sunday at 2.00 pm.

Fixtures & Results

Due to the inclement weather conditions of late leading to unplayable pitches, a number of games have been postponed and re-scheduled.

The Div. 2 Reserve League game did not go ahead last Sunday as Aughawillan conceded the fixture.

The Spring League Div. 2 fixture against Kiltubrid, which was arranged for last Friday evening, was postponed as the Kiltubrid pitch was unplayable. The team resume their campaign next Saturday evening, April 20th, when they travel to Bornacoola.

The re-arranged Div. 1 U-15 Boys game against St. Brigid’s was played on Monday evening last resulting in a fine win for the Allen Gaels outfit. The lads continue their campaign this Thursday evening when they face Rinn Gaels in Bornacoola.

Hard luck to our U-18 lads who lost out to a strong St. Mary’s side in their Div. 1 clash.

The Junior Ladies opening league game against St. Mary’s did not go ahead last Sunday as planned. However, the Intermediate Ladies began their league run with a comprehensive win over Ballinamore. Their next fixture is a home game against St. Joseph’s on Sunday next, Apr. 21st.

The Girls U-16 game against Dromahair which was to be played last Friday did not go ahead due to weather conditions.

County News

The Leitrim U-20’s were just caught at the death by Sligo who equalised with an injury-time penalty in Markiewicz Park last week. They now face a crucial Connacht championship encounter with Roscommon this Wednesday, Apr. 17th, in Ballinamore. Best of luck to the team & management especially our club players Arek Oberwan, Jake Tobin & Ciarán McMorrow.

Likewise, we extend our best wishes to the Leitrim Minor team and Allen Gaels panel members Daire McCabe, Senan McGowan & Oran Foley in their Connacht championship game against Sligo in Markiewicz Park on Friday next, Apr. 19th.

Congratulations to club players Leah Casey (U-14 Girls), Adam Cull (U15 Boys) and Mark Nolan, Rhionn Gallagher, Oisín McGarry & Daniel Gilraine (U-16 Boys), who represented Leitrim last Saturday in the Connacht Centre of Excellence.

Sympathy

We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Tom McGovern, Carrick Rd., Drumshanbo and formerly Kilmaghera, last week.  The club extends its sincere sympathy to Tom’s wife, Úna and to his family at this difficult time. A big thank you to the Allen Gaels members who provided a guard of honour as Tom’s mortal remains arrived at St. Patrick’s Church for his funeral mass last Thursday.

25 Card Game

The weekly card game takes place every Sunday evening in Áras Pádraig at 8.30 pm. All are welcome.

Fixtures & Results

The U-16 Girls continued their winning ways with a fine win over Kiltubrid last week. Let’s hope they can continue their winning streak with a home victory over Dromahair this Friday evening at 6.45pm.

The U-15 Boys opened their league campaign with a good home win over Fenagh last week. Best of luck to the lads as they host St. Brigid’s in their second round match this Thursday evening at 7.00pm.

The U-18 team commenced their league run with a hard-earned win over Dromahair in St. Osnat’s last week and continued their campaign with a home game against St. Mary’s on Tuesday, April 9th.

Hard luck to our U-12 Girls who put up a brave display before losing narrowly at home to Dromahair last Monday evening. Let’s hope the girls can get a win in their next fixture.

Unfortunately, our Junior team suffered a heavy defeat in their opening game of the Div. 2 Reserve League against Dromahair in very difficult conditions. Hopefully they can get that result out of their system when they entertain Aughawillan on Sunday next at 1.00pm.

The St. Francis Ladies played their first game of the Spring League away to Ballinamore last Sunday. However, despite a fine first half display, Ballinamore took the honours. On Sunday next both Senior & Junior Ladies teams begin their respective league campaigns with the Seniors away to Ballinamore at 12.45pm and the Juniors hosting St. Mary’s at 4.00pm.

Our Senior men travel to Kiltubrid for the next round of the Spring League which takes place on Saturday next at 7.00pm. Best of luck to all our teams in their upcoming fixtures.

County News

Hats off to the Leitrim U-20 team who defeated Mayo in their Connacht Championship encounter in Ballinamore last week. It was a thoroughly deserved victory which gave the county a huge lift. Let’s hope they can continue on their winning ways when they take on Sligo in Markiewicz Park on Wednesday, April 10th at 6.30pm.

Hard luck to the Leitrim Senior team who just never got to grips with the gale-force conditions in Páirc Seán last Sunday. After a sluggish start, Sligo dominated possession and reeled off a stream of points to build up a healthy half-time lead which laid the groundwork for a comprehensive win. Best of luck to the team as they embark on the Tailteann Cup competition which begins next month.

Congratulations

We extend warm congratulations to Sinéad Wynne and Peter O Dwyer who were married last weekend in Portugal. We wish them both a lifetime of health and happiness.

Fixtures & Results

After a fine victory over Cloone in our opening Spring League game things didn’t go our way last Monday as Aughavas took the honours with a four- point victory. It was great to see so many up & coming young players getting a game and adding to their experience.

Well done to our U-16 Girls who had a good win over Annaduff last week. Hopefully they can continue on their winning ways in the next round when they face Kiltubrid.

The U-12 Girls battled hard throughout but lost out to a very good Manorhamilton side last Friday evening. We wish them the best of luck next Friday when they travel to Kinlough to take on the local team.

Best of luck also to the U-15 Boys as they begin their league campaign away to Fenagh on Thursday evening.

The U-18 Boys began their league run last night with an away fixture in Dromahair and follow that with a home game against St. Mary’s on Tuesday, April 9th at 7pm. We wish them every success.

County News

Commiserations to the Leitrim Senior team on coming second best to a very impressive Laois outfit in Croke Park last Saturday. Despite this defeat, it was wonderful to see the Leitrim colours flying high and to meet so many Leitrim supporters at GAA Headquarters. Hopefully the team and management can learn from the experience as they entertain Sligo in Páirc Seán next Sunday in the opening round of the Connacht Championship.

The county U-20 team host Mayo in the next round of the Connacht Championship which takes place in Ballinamore on Wednesday, April 3rd at 6.15pm. The very best of luck to the team and especially to Arek, Jake & Ciarán, the Allen Gaels members of the panel.
