Mayor Campaign: The campaign came to an end last week and the winner was announced at a function in the Mayflower on Thursday night. After several months fundraising the three candidates – Sean Mulvey, Oisin Dolan & Hubert McCormack submitted their final tallies under a blanket of secrecy and when the results were made known it proved an incredible success. The final figures were Sean Mulvey – €9,900.76; Oisin Dolan – €14,723 and Hubert McCormack – €25,675.53 and returning officer, Kevin Blessing, duly deemed Hubert McCormack the new Mayor of Drumshanbo and our congratulations to Hubert. The 3 men raised a total of just over €50,000 for the club and we want to convey our sincere thanks and appreciation to all three & their campaign teams who put in a phenomenal effort since the turn of the year. Sean raised all his funds in London & New York which was a remarkable achievement while Oisin and Hubert came up with a host of novel ideas at home with the Club the major winner for all their efforts.
The evening was greatly enhanced by the presence of Sam Maguire and the club would like to thank Dr. Charles McManus who arranged this through his position as doctor to the Donegal Team and indeed Charles toured a number of local schools on Friday morning. It was nice to see 2 former players make a surprise appearance on the night, with both home for a short holiday, Donncha Lynch from Perth and Paul McGovern from Boston. Our thanks to Kevin Blessing & Paul Gibbons who oversaw the running of the event; to Battie Gibbons & his staff who catered on the night; to Thomas Nolan for entertaining the large crowd and to the Mayflower Committee for use of the community centre. Finally a big thank you to everyone in the locality, the surrounding areas and further afield who supported all the fundraising activities and made the contest such a resounding success.
